The S40 can be paired with eMAX, eMINI, eINST and eLINK remote controls. For optimal and safe use of the S40, Elebia recommends using the eLINK remote control device.
| Remote Type | Description |
|---|---|
| eMINI | Compact remote control allowing the operator to open and close the shackle and check battery level. Displays sensor information and maintenance messages. |
| eMAX | Advanced remote control with high-resolution screen and keypad for full configuration and monitoring. |
| eINST | Installable remote control placed in the crane relay cabinet. Requires simple wiring. Can block the crane's upward movement when the shackle is in intermediate position. Compatible with all cranes. Power supply: 10V DC to 60V DC. |
| eLINK | Recommended for optimal and safe use. Connects the shackle to external systems such as PLCs, SCADA, or crane controls. |
5. LED Status Indicator
The S40 features an LED status indicator that provides visual feedback during operation:
| LED Color / Pattern | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Steady Green | Shackle is open and autoclose function is disabled |
| Flashing Green | Shackle is open and autoclose function is enabled |
| Red | Warning! Shackle is in transition – caution required! Load is not secured, pin is moving. Lifting while LEDs are red may damage the device, potentially causing load loss and serious hazard to workers. |
| Steady Blue | Load is not suspended, shackle is ready to retract the pin |
| Flashing Blue | Load is suspended, pin is secured |
| Steady White | Low battery |
Critical Warnings:
- Do not move the crane while the safety pin is in motion (red LEDs). This may result in destruction of the S40 and consequently loss of the load.
- Lifting while LEDs are red is unsafe and will damage the S40.
6. Integrated Magnet
The S40 Automatic Shackle features a powerful magnet.
WARNING: Do not approach with metal items. Magnetic cards, credit cards, pacemakers, hard disks and other magnetic elements may be damaged if brought close to the magnet. Bear in mind that the magnet is strong enough to transport relatively heavy metallic elements unintentionally. Do not use the magnet to transport loads. They might fall and cause harm.
7. Operating Limits
Temperature Range:
The S40 is designed for use within a temperature range of -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F).
Chemical Exposure:
The S40 must not be exposed to acids, alkalines, or their vapours.
Operating Position:
The shackle must be in a vertical position during operation.
8. Lifting Procedure
Automatic Engage Procedure:
- Approach the S40 to the lifting point (flashing green LEDs)
- Carefully align the S40 with the lifting point hole (flashing green LEDs)
- Gradually lower the S40 until it securely rests on the lifting point (flashing green LEDs)
- Fine-tune height by moving slowly up and down. The autoclose system detects when the pin aligns with the hole. LEDs turn red as the pin inserts into the hole
- Crane operator should stop immediately when LEDs turn red
- When LEDs turn blue, the pin is fully secured and load is ready to be lifted
Releasing Procedure:
- Load is suspended and secured (flashing blue LEDs)
- Place load on ground. When blue LEDs turn solid, load is no longer on pin
- Send release command. Red LEDs indicate pin is retracting. Do not move crane during this time
- When pin is fully open (solid green LEDs), autoclose is temporarily disabled
- After one minute, autoclose reactivates automatically (LEDs change from solid green to flashing green)
9. Critical Warnings for Lifting
- Do NOT lift the load until the S40 is completely closed
- Do NOT move the crane while the safety pin is in motion (red LEDs)
- Do NOT lift loads over people
- Do NOT use the shackle to lift, sustain or transport people
- Do NOT attempt to open the S40 with a suspended load
- Do NOT lift more than the WLL indicated on the CE stamp
Load Distribution:
- To avoid eccentric loading, a loose spacer may be used on either end of the shackle pin
- The lifting accessory must have a thickness of at least 75% of the shackle's inside width
- If accessory thickness falls below this limit, use steel spacers to achieve required thickness
- The rigging accessory must allow the load to align with the S40, preventing bending moments
- Ensure rigging attachment is securely attached and not trapped by the S40 pin
10. Manual Override
In the event of electrical/electronic failure, the pin movement can be manually overridden. Insert a 5mm Allen wrench into the hole provided. Turn the wrench according to the direction you want the pin to move.
11. Safety Features
Autoclose System: Automatically detects when the pin aligns with the lifting point hole and inserts the pin.
Pin Floating System: The pin must move downwards when loaded, with LEDs going from steady blue to flashing blue.
Lock Confirmation: Blue LEDs confirm pin is fully secured and load is ready to be lifted.
Manual Override: Emergency release mechanism available.
12. Warranty
| Component | Warranty Period |
|---|---|
| S40 Automatic Shackle | 2 years (parts and labour) |
| Battery | Exempt from 2-year warranty |
Warranty is not valid in the following cases:
- Overload

Periodic inspections must be performed by a qualified person designated by Elebia. Records are required. Any unauthorized modifications shall be a condition requiring removal from service.
At least once a year, or in case of any damage, the shackle should be inspected, tested and if necessary returned to Elebia Technical Service for review.
14. End of Life
The device must be removed from service once the service life is reached. Using the S40 beyond its designated service life can lead to serious safety risks, including potential failure during use, breakage and safety hazards for personnel and equipment.
Maximum Service Life: 20,000 cycles
Units with custom link: Service life is reduced to 20,000 cycles.
15. Storage
The shackle must be stored clean and in a non-humid area to protect against corrosion. Do not store the shackle with the battery inserted. Disconnect all power sources prior to handling.
