Applies to: All Elebia hook models

No Formal IP Rating

Elebia hooks do not have a formal IP (Ingress Protection) rating. This is intentional. Like cranes and forklifts, these hooks are engineered to operate reliably in real-world industrial environments, including dust, moisture, and temperature fluctuations, without requiring a sealed enclosure. Electronics are resin-coated for additional protection.

Water Exposure

Elebia hooks can handle routine splashing and rain. However, take precautions if the hook becomes fully submerged or if water stagnates inside the housing:

- PCB buzzer: Prolonged water contact may cause loss of beep signals.

- Battery contacts: Water accumulation can cause corrosion, leading to intermittent power or startup failures.

If the hook has been significantly exposed to water:

1. Remove the battery.

2. Open the cover and allow the hook to dry completely.

3. Clean the battery contacts before returning the hook to service.

Operating Temperature Range

Elebia hooks operate reliably between -20 C and 60 C. Outside this range, extreme cold can increase material brittleness and extreme heat can weaken structural components. Check ambient temperature before use in unusual conditions.

Chemicals and Corrosive Environments

Elebia hooks are not suitable for environments with acids, alkaline substances, or chemical vapors. These agents can corrode metal components and compromise structural and electrical integrity. Contact Elebia for guidance if your environment involves corrosive agents.

Marine and Salt Environments

Prolonged exposure to salt air or seawater accelerates corrosion on components such as the safety latch and battery contacts. Standard hooks (blue finish) are not designed for permanent installation on vessels or offshore platforms.

For marine applications, Elebia offers a Marine variant identified by its yellow paint finish, which provides enhanced corrosion protection. If you are unsure whether your hook is the marine variant, check the paint colour.

Specialized Variants for Extreme Conditions

- High-temperature environments (steel mills, foundries): High-temperature battery variants and thermal insulation accessories are available.

- Marine (vessels, offshore platforms): Marine variant with yellow finish and enhanced corrosion protection.

- Subsea and underwater operations: Dedicated Subsea Lifting Solutions are available. Standard hooks are not suitable for immersion.

- ATEX and explosive atmospheres (refineries, chemical plants): ATEX/IECEx certified variants are available.
