Updating the firmware of your eMAX remote control is essential for optimal performance and access to the latest features. This guide will walk you through the steps for updating the firmware on both Windows and macOS systems.

For Windows Users:

1. Log In: Start by logging in as an Administrator or Service. If you haven't changed it, the default admin password is ‘0000’.

2. Power Off: Turn off your eMAX remote.

3. Connect: Use a USB cable to connect the eMAX to your computer.

4. Enter Update Mode: Press and hold the left direction on the keypad while turning the eMAX back on.

5. Replace Firmware: Navigate to the folder ‘elebia_eMax’ on your computer and replace the old ‘firmware.bin’ file with the new one. Ensure the file name remains exactly ‘firmware.bin’—variations like ‘firmware(1).bin’ will not work.

6. Disconnect: Safely disconnect the eMAX from the USB. It will automatically power off.

7. Reboot: Turn the eMAX back on. A yellow ‘!’ will appear on the status bar, indicating that the firmware has been successfully updated.

8. Verification: Check the infocentre>remote to confirm the new firmware version is displayed.

Troubleshooting:

If the eMAX does not wake up after the update, this may be due to a Windows USB bug. Open the eMAX case (remove the four screws under the bumpers) and disconnect and reconnect the battery. Then, repeat the update process.

For macOS Users:

1. Log In: Log in as Administrator or Service.

2. Power Off: Turn off the eMAX.

3. Connect: Connect the eMAX to your Mac using a USB cable.

4. Enter Update Mode: Press and hold the left direction on the keypad while turning the eMAX on.

5. Delete Old Firmware: Go to the ‘elebia_eMax’ folder and delete the old ‘firmware.bin’ file. Empty the trash to ensure it is fully removed.

6. Open Terminal: Navigate to Applications > Utilities > Terminal.

7. Copy New Firmware: In Terminal, type `dd if=` and then drag the new ‘firmware.bin’ file into the Terminal window. This will automatically fill in the path. After that, type `of=/Volumes/ELEBIA_eMAX/firmware.bin conv=notrunc` and press enter.

8. Disconnect: Safely disconnect the eMAX from the USB. It will turn off.

9. Reboot: Turn the eMAX back on. A yellow ‘!’ will appear on the status bar, indicating the firmware has been updated.
